Heart Seedsticks Giveaway for Valentine's Day

Eco-Friendly Valentine’s Day Giveaway Ideas

Looking for eco-friendly ways to show love to your customers this Valentine’s Day? The true purpose of Valentine’s Day is to appreciate loved ones, but don’t forget to show love for the Earth too! Choose Valentine’s Giveaways that won’t harm or pollute the planet but also show your customers and clients how much you care about them.

History of Valentine’s Day

But first, to fully appreciate Valentine’s Day, let’s delve into its origins. The mid-February celebrations can actually be traced all of way back to the Roman festival of Lupercalia, which celebrated fertility, paired men off with women based on a lottery system. It wouldn’t be until the end of the 5th century when Christianity was in full-swing that Pope Gelasius I replaced Lupercalia with St. Valentine’s Day. Naturally, Valentine was a popular name in the olden days, so nobody is quite sure just which acclaimed Valentine the day is named after.

One version of the legend claims that a priest named Valentine signed a letter “from your Valentine” to a woman he had befriended and by some accounts, healed of her blindness.  Thus came the birth of Valentine’s cards! The other commonly accepted origin story is that a priest named Valentine married couples in secret against the orders of the emperor. The marriages were done to spare husbands from having to go off to war leaving their loved ones. Either theory is quite lovely, and supports why St. Valentine’s Day is associated with love.

Custom Valentine’s Gifts & Giveaways

So, now that we’ve had a bit of history lesson, let’s fast forward to the present day. As you know, the environment isn’t in a great place right now. Between climate change and the ever-growing plastic waste affecting our land and ocean environments, it’s important for each of us to do everything in our power to be more eco-friendly, and reduce the use of single-use plastics.

The most popular Valentine’s Day product is the greetings card. Whilst most Valentine’s Day cards are paper rather than plastic, it still takes lots of energy and resources to create virgin paper or even to recycle paper.  And if a paper card is decorated with glitter or metallics it’s less likely to be recyclable after use.

Check out our eco-friendly sustainable greeting cards (or alternatives) that are kinder to the Earth. All of our Valentine’s Giveaways can be custom-printed with any business branding and logo.  Use them as giveaways to loyal customers, brand ambassadors, influencers or as a thank you to employees.  Click on the links near the products to request a sample or a quote.

Eco-Friendly Ways to Show Your Love This Valentine’s Day

What better time is there to celebrate love than during the Valentine’s season?  That being said, there is definitely a balance to strike in between the true purpose of Valentine’s Day – appreciating love and your loved ones – and showing that appreciation with gifts that won’t harm or pollute the Earth. We’re featuring a variety of products and ideas that merge the loving spirit of Valentine’s Day with products that you can feel good about – because they’re good for the Earth!

But first, to fully appreciate Valentine’s Day, let’s delve into its origins, as reported by Britannica.com. The mid-February celebrations can actually be traced all of way back to the Roman festival of Lupercalia, which celebrated fertility, paired men off with women based on a lottery system. While yes, most Valentine’s Day cards are paper rather than plastic, it still takes lots of energy to recycle paper. Plus, a lot of the paper cards outfitted with glitter and metallics actually are less likely to be recyclable. There are still material alternatives that are kinder to the Earth, and we’re pleased to share some of those with you.

Sustainable Marketing Materials for Universities

We recently had the pleasure of working with University of Strathyclyde, providing them with our eco-friendly Sprout Pencils. Regarding how pleased they are with the pencils,  Špela Rapoša AIEMA, the school’s environment resources manager said, “We encourage sustainable options and waste minimisation at the University of Strathclyde, although we appreciate that marketing materials are a helpful tool for spreading the message about what we do. With such an array of materials available these days it’s tricky to keep on top of natural choices so when we found out about Sprout Pencils we were very excited and can’t wait to share these with our staff and students. The simplicity of it all is really eye-catching and makes the ‘freebie’ stand out from the crowd of the usual suspects.”

Plastic Straw Alternatives

First off, if you haven’t heard, there have recently been massive developments in the fight against plastic straws. With 28,218 stores worldwide, Starbucks is one of the world’s largest fast food chains, and they’ve just promised to phase out plastic straws by 2020! Of course, this is great news for the amount of straws that will be saved at Starbucks shops alone. Even more notably, this decision is drawing massive attention to the issue of plastic straws all over.

Bio Straws For Your Brand

Straws – talk about a current hot-button topic!  Naturally, it’s a perfect time to show your customers how much you value the environment by replacing any and all of your straw needs with our biodegradable straws. These straws are made completely from PLA, a plant-based material with 67% less embodied carbon than oil-based PP plastic. Meanwhile, our white promotional straws are made from Ecovio, a compostable plant-based material with great properties. But, unlike paper straws, they won’t break down easily and cause complaints.

Our straws are designed for commercial composting together with food waste, where facilities exist. Custom-printed biodegradable straws are available from 5 mm to 10 mm in black, white with a green stripe or in clear biodegradable plastic. Additionally, customers can even choose a custom-printed wrapper to really boost a brand’s impact.

Cactus Keyrings

When it comes to key accessories, it doesn’t get much cooler than living cactus keyrings.

That being said, one of our fan favourites at Buddy Burst are our cactus keyrings! These lovely little succulents grow slowly in their capsules for their first 8-12 months, then will grow large enough to be replanted into a pot. Brands can have their logos printed right on the side of the enclosure, or on the packaging. Because the mini cactus also needs to be tended to and watered about once a month, a special relationship with the brand will be fostered as folks care for their cacti.

cactus keyring spike & west eco-friendly promotional products

The succulents that come within the cactus keyrings are available in either “Spike” or “West” variety, so your clients can choose their prickly preferences.  As for details, the product dimensions are 17mm x 40mm, while the whole thing weighs only 15g. It can have both sides of the packaging printed in full colour, and even have an imprint on the capsule. Lead time is approximately 2-3 from artwork approval.

cactus keyrings eco-friendly sustainable promo products

Here are some fun facts that you might not have known about cacti via Softpedia News.

  • There are over 2,000 total species of cacti. The plants come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and in the southwestern United States, can grow to be over 20 m tall.

  • Cacti plants are actual water reservoirs. If you were to split open a cacti, the inner clear liquid may not look like the water that the average person is used to, but nonetheless, the thick liquid inside the plant is perfectly drinkable.

  • Just like other plants, cacti are pollinated by animals like hummingbirds and bees.

  • Cacti flowers range in colour and blooming periods depending on the species. Interestingly enough, some only bloom at sunset, while others only bloom in the daylight.

If you have any questions at all regarding the cactus keyrings, please don’t hesitate to ask! Simply email hello@buddyburst.com, or call us at +44 (0) 207 157 9598.

Seedballs helping to feed bees

Keeping The Bees Buzzing With Seedballs

The fact that bees are dying at an alarming rate may be one of your favourite memes on the internet, but the wellbeing of bees really is a massive concern. The pollination services that bees naturally provide us with are invaluable. Without enough bees, not only would honey supplies be down, but basic crops like apples would be threatened.

But why are we telling you all of this? Well, we’re determined to do what we can to help. Interestingly enough, one of the best things you can do to help sustain the bee population is to simply plant wildflowers! That’s where our seed-based products come in.

One of our favourite (and by far the most fun) ways to plant wildflowers is with our seedballs. The tiny balls are made from a mixture of seeds, clay, peat-free compost and chili powder, which create a protective casing against seed predators. To be planted, they simply need to be scattered on fertile soil, and nature will do the rest

The best thing about our seedballs is that they come specifically in a “Bee Mix” variety. The Bee Mix seeds grow into a mix of wildflowers that are particularly good for the bees, as according to experts. Most recently, BNP Paribas used tins of our Bee Mix Seedballs as favours at a conference. Having them as favours helped spark conversation about sustainability during the event.

The seedballs are available in either matchbox-style sets of 8, or in tins of 20. The packages can be customised to represent a specific message from your brand. Not only will your brand be correlated with sustainable planting, but the seedballs will grow into something that consumers will tend to, look after, and affectionately associate your brand with. To learn  more information about seedballs, or to contact us, visit https://buddyburst.com/products/.

Painting The Park Pink With Our Bio Balloons

This year’s Paint The Park Pink walk was a record breaker for the London-based St. John’s Hospice, and we are so pleased that our Bio Balloons were able to have a place in the ceremonies. Over 200 supporters showed up for the walk, who combined raised £15,000 for St John’s Hospice. Beginning in Regents Park, the walk was kicked off with a ribbon cutting by CEO Caroline Fox, along with Hospice patients. A lovely memorial balloon release also took place before the walk began. The release, of course, was done with our 100% natural latex Bio Balloons. All of the balloons released were biodegradable,

The charity walk coursed friends, families, staff, and volunteers in a 5k ramble around Regents Park and Primrose Hill, where they were able to enjoy spectacular views of London. Once the walkers reached the finish line, they were able to enjoy a BBQ and refreshments. Many of the supporters stayed well into the afternoon to enjoy the post-walk festivities. Regarding the successful event, Fundraising Director Mark Thomas said, ‘A big thank you to everyone who took part and help us raise this incredible amount, our Hospice simply which could not run without the generosity of our supporters and the help of our volunteers.’

St. John’s Hospice is kept up and running by the support of over 150 volunteers. Thanks to the hard work and generosity of these volunteers, over 4,000 patients are cared for each year by the organisation. To donate, head over to https://www.stjohnshospice.org.uk/donate/.
