Eco-Friendly Valentine’s Day Giveaway Ideas

Looking for eco-friendly ways to show love to your customers this Valentine’s Day? The true purpose of Valentine’s Day is to appreciate loved ones, but don’t forget to show love for the Earth too! Choose Valentine’s Giveaways that won’t harm or pollute the planet but also show your customers and clients how much you care about them.

History of Valentine’s Day

But first, to fully appreciate Valentine’s Day, let’s delve into its origins. The mid-February celebrations can actually be traced all of way back to the Roman festival of Lupercalia, which celebrated fertility, paired men off with women based on a lottery system. It wouldn’t be until the end of the 5th century when Christianity was in full-swing that Pope Gelasius I replaced Lupercalia with St. Valentine’s Day. Naturally, Valentine was a popular name in the olden days, so nobody is quite sure just which acclaimed Valentine the day is named after.

One version of the legend claims that a priest named Valentine signed a letter “from your Valentine” to a woman he had befriended and by some accounts, healed of her blindness.  Thus came the birth of Valentine’s cards! The other commonly accepted origin story is that a priest named Valentine married couples in secret against the orders of the emperor. The marriages were done to spare husbands from having to go off to war leaving their loved ones. Either theory is quite lovely, and supports why St. Valentine’s Day is associated with love.

Custom Valentine’s Gifts & Giveaways

So, now that we’ve had a bit of history lesson, let’s fast forward to the present day. As you know, the environment isn’t in a great place right now. Between climate change and the ever-growing plastic waste affecting our land and ocean environments, it’s important for each of us to do everything in our power to be more eco-friendly, and reduce the use of single-use plastics.

The most popular Valentine’s Day product is the greetings card. Whilst most Valentine’s Day cards are paper rather than plastic, it still takes lots of energy and resources to create virgin paper or even to recycle paper.  And if a paper card is decorated with glitter or metallics it’s less likely to be recyclable after use.

Check out our eco-friendly sustainable greeting cards (or alternatives) that are kinder to the Earth. All of our Valentine’s Giveaways can be custom-printed with any business branding and logo.  Use them as giveaways to loyal customers, brand ambassadors, influencers or as a thank you to employees.  Click on the links near the products to request a sample or a quote.

poppy seeds for remembrance day

Poppy Seeds for Remembrance Day

Remember, Remembrance Day is less than a month away! As you may know, poppies became associated with Remembrance Day because once regrowth began to take place after World War I,  poppies were the first to bloom. After they populated some of the worst battlefields of Flanders after World War I, their brilliant red colour quickly becoming a symbolic remembrance of the blood shed in the war.

While it may be difficult to give your customers real poppies, we can supply something that’s perhaps even better – poppy seeds that your customers can grow on their own! Not to mention, they come in a

Seedballs helping to feed bees

Keeping The Bees Buzzing With Seedballs

The fact that bees are dying at an alarming rate may be one of your favourite memes on the internet, but the wellbeing of bees really is a massive concern. The pollination services that bees naturally provide us with are invaluable. Without enough bees, not only would honey supplies be down, but basic crops like apples would be threatened.

But why are we telling you all of this? Well, we’re determined to do what we can to help. Interestingly enough, one of the best things you can do to help sustain the bee population is to simply plant wildflowers! That’s where our seed-based products come in.

One of our favourite (and by far the most fun) ways to plant wildflowers is with our seedballs. The tiny balls are made from a mixture of seeds, clay, peat-free compost and chili powder, which create a protective casing against seed predators. To be planted, they simply need to be scattered on fertile soil, and nature will do the rest

The best thing about our seedballs is that they come specifically in a “Bee Mix” variety. The Bee Mix seeds grow into a mix of wildflowers that are particularly good for the bees, as according to experts. Most recently, BNP Paribas used tins of our Bee Mix Seedballs as favours at a conference. Having them as favours helped spark conversation about sustainability during the event.

The seedballs are available in either matchbox-style sets of 8, or in tins of 20. The packages can be customised to represent a specific message from your brand. Not only will your brand be correlated with sustainable planting, but the seedballs will grow into something that consumers will tend to, look after, and affectionately associate your brand with. Score Big During This Summer’s World Cup!

It may seem like the Winter Olympics only just wrapped up, but it’s nearly time for the other massive quadrennial event of the year, the 2018 World Cup! If you’re looking for a creative way to promote your company while playing up the events, look no further than our seeded paper flags!

Alright, you probably won’t be getting much use waving a Canadian flag at this year’s event, but luckily, both sides of these little flags are completely customisable, and can be printed on in full colour.

You can encourage your customers to back their team, and even incorporate your company’s logo on the opposing side of the flag. Once the flag is ready to be retired, the seeded paper on it can be planted. Once planted and sufficiently watered, these spectating accessories can grow into a lovely wildflower mix, lettuce, or even dill! Lucky for you, there’s loads of fun wordplay to be had with these plants…

Lettuce take home the World Cup.

We’re kind of a big dill.

If you’re backing England (or another country) and a seeded paper flag isn’t your thing, our Seedsticks® always make for a fantastic promo product when it comes to sporting events… just ask England. 😉

An eco-friendly spin off from the promotional matchbox of the past, each Seedsticks® can be torn away and planted individually. One of our favourite football-themed promotions is infused with grass seeds, with the idea of being able to “grow your own pitch.” Some other fun ideas with our Seedsticks® include:

Chili seeds to help “Fire England to the World Cup.”

Thyme seeds, because “It’s about thyme we took home a World Cup again.”

Sweet pepper seeds, as “Victory is ever so sweet.

If you don’t fancy any of those options, not to worry! The Seedsticks® can be filled with a variety of flower, herb, or vegetable seeds. We’ve got loads of options. For both the seeded flags and Seedsticks®, please allow 3-4 weeks lead time from artwork approval.

No matter which of our sustainable products you choose to celebrate the World Cup with, you’re sure to leave a lasting impression on everyone who gets a seeded product from you.

We’d love to help you create some lovely promotional products for the World Cup. Email us with any questions here, or give us a call at +44 (0) 207 157 9598.
