National Gardening Week: Gardening for Mental Health and to Promote Your Brand
National Gardening Week 2021 takes place from Monday 26th April to Sunday 2nd May. The theme for this year is ‘Get Your Dose of Vitamin G!
The Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns have meant that many of us have spent more time in the garden or using public green spaces for our daily exercise. Getting outside has been key to our well-being – both mentally and physically! The feel-good power of plants will be shared during National Gardening Week to help you get your daily dose of Vitamin G!
Join the RHS on social media using #NationalGardeningWeek, or visit the well-being hub to find out more on the science behind the power of plants.
Benefits of Gardening for Mental Health
We agree with the RHS that gardening is fabulous for mental health. Getting out in nature and doing a spot of gardening has also been a popular activity and this has continued into Spring 2021.
Growing your own food is a very satisfying hobby and has a practical purpose too. It’s also a great way to teach children where food comes from and how to grow their own. Many parents took up gardening with their children whilst school is closed and plan to continue as lockdown eases. It’s the perfect way to engage children in practical science lessons that are fun, engaging and nurturing.
Gardening is also a great activity to get your body moving and keep the brain active. Some doctors are recommending gardening and getting involved in tending community allotments, to help in the national fight against obesity.
Connecting with nature, and gardening, in particular, has a myriad of mental health benefits including lessened depression, improved creativity, and more. As more people engage with planting and begin to experience its benefits, we only plan to see the trend become increasingly popular.
